How to Decorate a Cake to Look Like a Skunk

    • 1). Prepare one box of cake mix according to the package directions in a large mixing bowl. Cake mixes usually call for 3 large eggs, 1 1/3 cups of water and 1/3 cup of vegetable oil.

    • 2). Place a black paper cupcake liner in one cavity of a cupcake pan and fill the liner 2/3 full with the cake batter.

    • 3). Divide the remaining batter between two greased 8-inch round pans.

    • 4). Bake the cakes and cupcake at 350 F until a knife inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean. The cakes should take approximately 20 to 25 minutes to bake while the cupcake should be done in 15 minutes.

    • 5). Invert the cake pans onto a wire rack to remove the cakes from the pans. Let them cool completely.

    • 6). Cut one of the 8-inch round cakes in half to create two half circles.

    • 7). Spread 1/4 cup of frosting onto the flat bottom of one of the half circle cakes and press the bottom of the other half circle piece of cake onto the frosting. This creates a two layer cake with the bottoms of the cake pressed together.

    • 8). Place the whole 8-inch cake on one side of a 16-inch or wider cake board. Arrange the double layer cake behind it with the cut edges of the cake facing down. This creates the skunk's body and curved tail.

    • 9). Add several drops of black food coloring to a can of dark chocolate frosting and stir it until the frosting turns black.

    • 10

Spread the black frosting over the top and sides of the cakes on your cake board and onto the top of the cupcake.

    • 11

Press two round candy-coated chocolates onto the top of the cupcake to make the skunk's eyes and add a pink jelly bean for its nose. The entire top of the cupcake forms the skunk's face so keep this in mind as you place the candies.

    • 12

Place the cupcake on its side on top of the whole 8-inch cake. The skunk will now face forward and the black paper liner will blend in with the frosting.

    • 13

Roll pieces of white taffy flat with a rolling pin and cut them into strips with a knife. Arrange these strips of taffy on the back of your skunk and its tail to give it a white stripe.
