Creamy Cheese Mushroom Turnovers Appetizer Recipe

When you think about the holidays and holiday parties, you cannot help but to think about the various types of appetizers you might like to try.
Many are easy party appetizers that you can make in hardly any time while using simple ingredients.
For instance, this recipe blends the delicious flavors of cream cheese, sour cream, onions, and mushrooms.
They are compact and bite size turnovers, which makes them ideal for serving at your next party.
Whether you are serving a large or small crowd of people, you are sure to please them with these delicious morsels whether you serve them alone as a snack or as a fancy appetizer for dipping.
Recipe for Creamy Cheese Mushroom Turnovers Appetizer What You Need
  • 1 package softened cream cheese 8 ounce
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup softened butter or margarine
  • 3 Tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 pound fresh chopped mushrooms
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 3 Tablespoons chicken broth or cooking sherry
  • 1 Tablespoon melted butter
How to Make It Place the cream cheese and 3/4 cup butter or margarine out onto the counter to soften about 20 minutes before preparation time.
Make the dough by combining the cream cheese, flour and 3/4 cup softened butter or margarine.
Mix thoroughly and then shape the dough into a ball.
Cover with dishtowel and place in the refrigerator to chill for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Using a large saucepan or skillet over a medium heat you will add the 3 tablespoons butter or margarine.
Melt the butter and then add the diced onions to saute until golden brown, but do not burn.
Add the mushrooms and saute for about 3 more minutes.
Add the thyme, salt and pepper and then stir well.
Add the 2 tablespoons flour gradually while sprinkling it into the mushroom mixture.
Add the sour cream and then stir to combine well.
Add the chicken broth or cooking sherry and stir well.
Remove from heat and then set aside until needed.
Prepare a clean, flat surface by lightly covering it with flour so you can roll out your dough.
Remove dough from the refrigerator and then flour your hands lightly.
Roll or pat the dough onto the lightly floured surface to a 1/8 inch thickness.
Using a 3 inch round biscuit cutter or cookie cutter, you will cut the dough into circles.
Place the dough circles onto a large un-greased baking sheet, cookie pan, or pizza pan.
Spoon a teaspoonful of the mushroom mixture on half of each dough circle.
Fold each dough circle over the mushroom filling and then press together the edges using a fork to seal them shut.
Place them in the preheated oven to bake for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the edges are a light brown color.
After cooking brush the tops of the creamy cheese mushroom turnovers with the melted butter or margarine before serving them to your party guests, family, and friends.
