Boston, Massachusetts is well-known for hosting some of the most renowned institutions of higher education in the country, but Boston also has several special-focus and technical colleges that offer training in various fields, including art, architecture and music. - Founded in 1908, the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology is steeped in history. Located in Boston's South End neighborhood, this private, technical institution was established under provisions in Benjamin Franklin's will. Today BFIT offers 15 certificate, associate's degree and bachelor's degree programs in several fields, including architectural technology, computer technology and ophthalmic assisting. Students can participate in a variety of student programs activities, including student government and The Green Club. The college also has a men's soccer team. Residential housing is available only to a limited number of students. With academic programs tailored to keep up with the changing demands of various technology-related fields, there is a high employment rate for BFIT graduates.
