Draw a “chain” of circles and rectangles. The first circle is the head. At the bottom of that circle, add a small rectangle for the neck. At the bottom of that rectangle, add another circle for the chest. At the bottom of that circle, add a medium-sized rectangle for the abdomen and add another circle. - 2
Starting at the shoulders (the top of the second circle you drew in step 1), add arm tubes. Since fairies are small, everything on this drawing is on the small scale, so make the upper arms an inch in length. Then add the lower portion of the arms, and bend them slightly to the right. The lower arm portion should also be an inch in length. For the legs, start from the bottom of the third circle you drew, and draw two leg tubes that are about an inch and one centimeter long. Then, add the bottom portion of the legs and bend them to the left slightly. The bottom portion of the legs should measure an inch and a centimeter and a half long. - 3
Add your hands and feet guidelines to your drawing. This is done by adding ovals to the ends of the arm and leg tubes. You may also add your face guidelines by dividing the face into quadrants; this will help you draw the face proportionately. - 4
Draw the eyes slightly above and curved up slightly on the outside corners of your guidelines. Make sure the eyes are elongated. Next, add the irises and pupils. Shape the fairy’s face; her face is very round. Make her left ear pointy like an elf ear. Add a nose where the quadrant line meets. Slightly below the nose, add the mouth. You may choose to add the hair in this step, or you can wait. - 5
Add the fairy’s neck, arms and body down to her waist. Trace over the guidelines you drew in steps one and two. - 6
Draw the fairy’s hands. You can add any pose you like for the fingers. Finish shaping out the fairy below the belly, and trace over your guidelines for the legs and feet. - 7
Add clothing and wings. You can dress your fairy any way you choose, and design your wings any way you want. Fairy wings range from dragonfly wings to butterfly wings, or any design you choose in between. - 8
Erase all guidelines, and color your fairy using any medium you choose. I choose to color my image using Photoshop Elements 5.0, and I cell-colored my image.
