- 1). Cut the tubing with a tubing cutter designed to cut plastic pipe. The blade is thinner than that of a metal pipe-cutting blade and prevents the pipe from flaring in. Clean the cut with sand paper to remove any imperfections for perfect fit.
- 2). Slide the appropriate size copper crimp ring onto the end of the tubing 2 inches. Insert the brass Zurn Pex fitting into the tubing all the way up to the fitting's shoulder. Move the crimp ring down over the fitting so that it's centered on the two locking rings ¼ inch from the fittings shoulder.
- 3). Holding the crimp tool at a 90-degree angle to the fitting and covering the whole fitting, force the tool's handles closed until they snap together. Open the tool's handles and remove.
- 4). Check each crimp with a Zurn Pex Go/No-go gauge for accuracy. Hold the gauge at a 90-degree angle to the crimp ring and slide it straight over the ring. If the crimp is not correct, cut the tubing, remove the copper ring with a removal tool, and start over. Adjust the crimp tool before making another joint.
- 5). Test all the crimped fittings in the new Pex tubing system with water or air equal to or greater than the expected operational pressures. If the installation requires inspection, pressure the line so that meets code approval; do not exceed 225psi.
