- 1). Plug the iPod cable into your iPod, and plug the opposite end of the cable into the USB 2.0 or FireWire port on your computer.
- 2). Open the iTunes program, and click the name of your iPod in the Devices area of iTunes.
- 3). Click the Summary tab in the iPod Preferences window in iTunes, and click the empty box next to "Enable disk use." According to Kelby, the checkbox is located in the Options section in the main window of iTunes.
- 4). Select the Apply button to boot the iPod in disk mode. The iPod icon will appear on your computer's desktop, which can then be opened.
- 5). Drop files into the iPod window to add it to your iPod. Right-click the iPod icon on your desktop, and select Eject from the shortcut menu to eject the iPod. On a Mac, press the "Control" button on your keyboard and click the iPod icon. Click "Eject" to remove the iPod.
