How to Replace or Repair Heated Mirrors on a Ford Expedition

    • 1). Remove any trim covers on the door panel using the pocket screwdriver. Be gentle so you don't scratch the trim with the tip of the screwdriver. Some models have a reflector lens at the bottom of the door that must be removed to expose fasteners. Others need the trim bezels around the door handle removed to access fasteners. In some cases, you will need to remove the bezel around the window and lock switches to access a fastener. If this is the case, go ahead and disconnect the switches now, instead of doing it in Step 4, to save yourself some time.

    • 2). Use the socket set to remove the fasteners in the door, which are under the trim panels you removed in Step 1.

    • 3). Unseat the trim pins from their mounts by sliding the trim pin removal tool between the door panel and door at the bottom rear corner and prying the pin there outward. Pull the door panel out far enough to allow you to visually locate the next pin and pull it out as well. Continue until you have unseated all the trim pins. You can purchase a trim pin removal tool at the local auto parts store for about $15.

    • 4). Lift the door panel upward and away from the door far enough for you to get between the door panel and door to disconnect the wiring harness leading to the power window and power lock switches. If the wiring harness does not come unclipped easily by hand, you may need to unseat the retaining clip using the pocket screwdriver. When you are done, move the door panel to a safe place until you are ready to reinstall it.

    • 5). Remove the trim cover from the back of the mirror mount on the inside of the door by slipping your fingers underneath the top lip and gently pulling outward and upward. Not all Expeditions have a trim cover there, and some are integrated into the door panel.

    • 6). Use the socket set to remove the nuts holding the mirror to the door frame. Unclip the wiring harness from the mirror and then move to the outside of the door, where you can pull the mirror off the door.

    • 7). Slip the new mirror onto the door by aligning the mounting studs with the holes in the door and pushing it into place. Install the nuts with the socket set and plug the wiring harness into the new mirror.

    • 8). Reinstall the door panel in reverse of how it was removed.
