Finding Your Passion

Helen, a high school graduate and married, without children, had the world at her fingertips.
Working as supervisor of the computer tech team for a Regional Hospital, Helen was earning around $80,000.
00 a year.
She could afford the best of everything she liked or liked others to have.
After she became a mother, and with her first born old enough to attend school, Helen made a seemingly illogical decision to quit her high paying job as the head honcho IT person and retrain area school teachers.
This decision seemed illogical because it meant a cut in annual income of $55,000.
00 and she now had the additional care of her child to consider.
If you asked Helen why she chose to make such an illogical and quite frankly radical change to her career path, she would matter-of-factly reply "Oh, I just hated that job.
The money was good, but the stress was horrible.
"The company owned me; I was always on-call and could expect my beeper to go off at any time, any day.
I had to be ready to leave my family's Christmas party, my child's birthday party, the intimate times with my husband, all for the sake of The Corporation.
I was never free from that hospital.
" She would continue to explain that teaching is what she always wanted to do and that the school system was a good place to start.
Helen example is a good one of someone who'd give up something she hated, such as a well paying job, to be able to follow her passion.
Passion driven people will make all sacrifices necessary to achieve their goal.
In Helen's case it was the sacrifice of a very substantial income in exchange for freedom of choice.
When people find their passion they undergo a life changing experience that is always accompanied by a high level of 'aliveness'.
They have a renewed purpose in life that aligns their abilities perfectly with their Highest Potential here on earth.
The result is a new sense of direction and the feeling that they have total command of their own world - they now know exactly which path to take.
Finding your passion sets you in a higher gear, allowing you to move forward at an accelerated rate.
Your life not only seems more manageable, it also seems a lot more inviting.
You are on an inexplicable 'high'.
You are 'on to something' with a determination that only passionate people can understand and appreciate.
Ideas start flooding into your head as if a breakthrough was made through a previously hidden mental gate.
They simmer inside, waking you up in the middle of the night, often formulating solutions to a challenge or other possibilities related to your new project.
You're on fire! How fortunate you are, if you instinctively realize that, as a walking torch, you'd be better off to seek out only the company of those that are 'heat proof': those who understand the mystery of passion and the ways to tame and mold it into a manageable shape and a more workable form.
They are the ones who will encourage the influx of more and even better ideas, through what is known as 'brainstorming'.
You can find your passion spontaneously, as happens in most cases.
In fact, the realization of what your passion is - that flicking on of your "passion-switch" - always happens spontaneously.
It's a mysterious effect that reveals itself as a breakthrough - a shift in perception - a paradigm shift known as an "AHA!! Moment".
But if this is the case, if it is indeed a spontaneous process, why call it "Finding your Passion", when finding indicates the conclusion to a search? Does 'finding your passion' indicate that there could be ways to deliberately induce the activation of that spontaneous and mysterious occurrence? And, if so, where does that search begin? Ninety percent of the people on this earth live a passionless life.
Many go through life, unconscious of who they truly are and unaware of their Highest Potential.
This same 90% identifies very strongly with the external world (the one that we see, hear, touch), they personalize everything in it (my this and my that) and blame on it whatever goes wrong with them.
Life happens to them and then they die, without ever embarking on that search for their passion.
"When patterns are broken, new worlds emerge.
"
Tuli Kupferburg The search for your passion starts with realizing who you are.
Not what you are, but WHO you are.
It is a search inward which in and of itself can become a passionate exploration.
And it is this inward search that will lead you to the awareness of your Highest Potential; the search that leads you to your Passion.
Helen's trigger to this inward exploration was her dissatisfaction with her high paying job, along with her awareness that there must be something more liberating and rewarding than what she already had.
When she started questioning her current position, and courageously initiated her inward search, she automatically invited into her life the quest to discover her passion.
It takes courage to shift from the external world to your internal world.
Yet, it is the most basic and most simplistic of all processes.
It starts with two simple questions: "Who am I?" and "Why am I here?" Herein lay the answers to your passion: finding your Highest Potential.
Herein lays also your greatest Liberation.
