Hi there, I hope you are doing well today.
Here is a list of the different ways I've been working on, increasing my state of happiness and awareness.
After reading many articles, blogs, watching videos, listing ways to be happier, these are the ones that helped the most.
Remember that informing yourself is important, but is a very small step in making things change.
Nothing is more important than taking action.
At the end of the articles you can find simple action points, but if you think of any that helped you, please don't hesitate to share them in the comment section.
1.
Start taking responsibility of your own state of mind.
Only you have the power to change your state of mind and no one else.
You have the keys to everything, so unlock the positive feelings and don't let your surroundings release the negative ones.
I've heard so many times people saying that they were miserable because, 'their boyfriend wasn't the right one', 'they didn't have enough money', 'their parents were annoying', 'they didn't get the grade they expected'...
These are all excuses for not taking responsibility on your actions, because it is easier for your ego to put the blame on someone or something else, than upon yourself.
This is then source of more negativity and misfortune than ever, due to a lack of confidence and transparency.
Next time you catch yourself doing this, I want you to pause, take a deep breath and admit you are the only one inflicting the damage.
You are the only one in charge of your mind; don't let external events control your state of emotions.
2.
Express your gratitude Studies have shown that the majority of the time, our brain is controlled by the subconscious mind.
This is the part we are not directly controlling but is influenced by external circumstances, built on the analysis that our brain makes on its surroundings.
When you are walking down the street, you conscious mind perceives a small fraction of the environment.
The subconscious mind though, absorbs everything without us being aware of it.
The secret is then to unleash this information stored inside, governing the law of attraction, which states that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring positive or negative results.
Therefore by expressing gratitude in your life, you are actually injecting positive thoughts in your subconscious mind.
It's not happiness that brings us gratitude; it's gratitude that brings us happiness.
Here is an experiment that described the impact of gratitude on happiness.
3.
Find fulfilment in life This may seem very obvious, so why are people getting midlife crises? That's because one day they wake up and realize they have been following the norms of society and haven't found what they really care for.
Their parents told them to go to high school; then study at university; After university you need to get a job; Then marry, buy a house, make children and before you see it coming, you are 50 and wondering what the hell you did all this time.
It is perfectly normal to not know the answer of what you really care for in life, but it is crucial to keep it in mind, continuously challenging yourself with the right questions.
4.
Take time to savor Appreciate what you are doing and what you have.
Live in the present.
Our modern society is always pushing us for more and more, projecting ourselves consistently in the future and letting no time to savor the moment.
I know that it is difficult to savor every single moment, but start small.
For example every time you are doing your favorite activity, take a moment to think about how much you are having fun and how awesome this is.
Then translate this to every part of your life like savoring your morning coffee.
The human brain is predetermined to never be satisfied and always want more.
Here is how I proceed to combine learning points for the future and savor: When I accomplish a demanding project, I take one hour to write down: -What did I learn from it? -How can I do better next time? -How is it going to impact positively other individuals? -How awesome and fulfilling it was? By doing this you start off my learning from your experience and can avoid future mistakes.
In the same time you finish by injecting positive thoughts to your mind, bringing up your confidence and turning the page on what was for you a successful project.
(Even if it wasn't for others) 5.
Create a life balance This is a concept hard to describe, especially because everyone needs a different type of balance.
If you are an introvert you will need more alone time than someone highly extrovert.
This point needs an extremely good understanding of yourself in order to master.
It will not come right the first time (like almost everything in life), you need to fail, to discover what does and doesn't work for you.
The secret in finding a life balance is understanding your strengths, weaknesses, what you love and don't like doing, and what your purpose in life is.
Here is an article that can help you answer these questions about fulfilment in life and The big question: What do You want? 6.
Master your emotions and mind Probably the hardest to accomplish, mastering your emotions and mind will take a lot of hard work on yourself.
Take Action As promised here are some simple things you can try out in your day-to-day life that can apply these concepts: -When something annoying happens in your life, take two minutes to think positively about what happened.
React after thought and analysis of the situation.
Ask yourself: 'is this really important?', 'I'm I not over reacting?', 'is it worth messing with my mind?' -Every day write one thing you are grateful for and why.
It could be a list on your computer or in your diary.
Keep them in mind by reading regularly the list -Write down what your strengths and weaknesses are.
If you have no idea just ask your friends or relatives, they usually have a good point of view.
-Next time you do something you love (play music, golf, read a book...
) say out loud, 'This is really awesome' and mean it.
-Meditate every morning.
Start with 1 minute every morning and continue investing more and more time.
