- 1). Prevent yeast infections through your diet. Consume yogurt, cranberry juice and garlic because they contain bacteria-fighting properties.
- 2). Refrain from sexual intercourse before your menstrual cycle occurs if you are prone to chronic yeast infections. The penis pushes the bacteria up the urethra, causing a yeast infection. The week before menstruation, women are more likely to contact a yeast infection.
- 3). At the first sign of a yeast infection, insert a small amount of plain, unsweetened yogurt into the vagina with a small spatula. The yogurt fights bacteria naturally.
- 4). Visit a doctor. She will determine the severity of the infection and prescribe appropriate medication. Diflucan is a common chronic yeast infection treatment but should be avoided by people with liver disease. Ketoconazole was the first-ever effective medication for yeast infections but has been linked to liver damage. Be sure to avoid both of these medications.
- 5). Ask your doctor about Fluconazole or Itraconazole. They are commonly used oral antifungal medications to treat yeast infections. There is no evidence they are unsafe to be taken by people with liver disease.
