- 1). Tap the Cydia icon on your iPhone's home screen to open it. Cydia is an open-source application similar to Apple's AppStore. Cydia features both applications and extensions, which modify how your phone behaves. WinterBoard is a free extension.
- 2). Tap the "Featured Packages" button. Scroll to the "Free Extensions" section and tap the "WinterBoard" button. Tap the "Install" button on the top right side of the screen. Cydia will install the WinterBoard extension and display a different screen when installation is complete.
- 3). Click the "Reboot Device" button to reboot your phone, and complete the WinterBoard installation.
- 4). Tap the WinterBoard icon to open the program. WinterBoard comes bundled with a default theme called "Saurik". Tap it to load it. WinterBoard loads the theme, displaying the familiar spinning wheel icon, and then routes you to the unlock screen. Unlock your phone, and you will see the changes applied to your springboard.
- 5). Install other themes using the Cydia application. Tap the Sections icon, and scroll to "Themes (Complete)" to view themes. A theme must be installed to be selectable in WinterBoard.
- 6). Tap WinterBoard to open the program. Any installed themes will be listed at the top of the list, followed by a variety of individual customizations. Tap any customization to activate it. Note that you can use the three-bar icon on the side of any customization to drag it up or down in the list.
By enabling a customization and dragging it above a selected theme, you can override that behavior as it is set in the theme. For example, you can enable "User Lock Background," and select your own picture, to replace the lock screen background which comes with the theme you have selected.
