How to Apply Glaze to Furniture That Is Painted

    • 1). Clean and dry your furniture. If you have just painted your furniture, you do not need to clean it again, but you should wait until the paint is completely dry.

    • 2). Use a paintbrush to spread the glaze over the painted surface of the furniture. Make sure to fill cracks and crevices in the surface completely. You can use the brush to spread the glaze in more than one direction to create greater texture.

    • 3). Use a damp rag to remove most of the glaze from the surface of the furniture but not the cracks and crevices. Rinse your rag frequently, so that you are removing the glaze and not simply spreading it around.

    • 4). Dry your glaze completely.

    • 5). Apply a top coat. You can use lacquer or a clear polyurethane, sometimes called poly or polycrylic. Lacquer can quickly become sticky and hard to spread, but it provides a beautiful finish. Polyurethane is easier to use and provides a protective coating and shine.
