- 1). Install a vapor retarder, sometimes called a vapor barrier, on the attic side of the ceiling board. Dale Dorman, Extension Housing and Environment Specialist, recommends using a vapor retarder with a perm value of less than 1.0.
- 2). Increase ventilation. Attics require more ventilation than other rooms in your home. Ideally, attics should have 1 square foot of unobstructed ventilation for every 150 square feet of attic area. Common ventilation types include gable vents, soffit vents, ridge vents, roof vents, and turbine vents.
- 3). Increase circulation. By running a fan in your attic, you can increase air circulation. This, in turn, will help prevent condensation on your roof.
