The engine is protected by a cylinder cover and a starter cover.
- The Husqvarna 371 XP uses a chain brake that is manually triggered or automatically initiated by a free-swinging pendulum that forms the inertia release mechanism. A stop switch turns the engine off and enables ingition. A pair of independent return springs form the throttle lock and control, altering throttle levels while ensuring the system is locked in an idle setting when the throttle is released. This chainsaw has a pull starter and a choke control.
