- 1). Find a church that is participating. If you are not a member of the church, you can still have your pet blessed during the ceremony. You will need to call area churches and find out which ones are participating at what time and date. It will most likely be on the 4th of October when the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi is, but be sure to ask. Larger churches or cities may have two blessings.
- 2). Inquire about the location. Most blessings are held outside of the church and you will need to know where to go when taking your animal to participate.
- 3). Have your pet properly controlled. You must have your pet on a leash, in a crate or proper housing in order to take part in the ceremony. This is for the safety of other people, other pets and yourself and your own pet. There may be many different species of pets there so be sure your pet is comfortable around strangers and other animals, including birds.
- 4). Know what is involved. The priest or officiate will bless your pet and sprinkle holy water on its head. You will most likely be in a line of some sor,t but some churches may ask people to come up individually, especially if the blessing is held indoors due to inclement weather.
