- 1). Use a car jack to raise the front end of the vehicle and place it on a pair of jack stands to hold it in the raised position. Ensure the E34's engine is cool to the touch before moving on to the next step.
- 2). Go under the center of the car and locate the oil pan. Look for a large, black, metal tank surrounded by six bolts. Put a collection pan beneath the drain pan to gather the fluid.
- 3). Twist off all but one of the bolts with a 3/8-inch socket wrench. Wait for the fluid to drain from the pan into the collection pan for approximately 15 minutes. Unfasten the last bolt and pull the pan off the engine. Pour the last of the fluid into the collection pan.
