- 1). Go to an auto parts store and purchase a new fuel filter. For a 1991 Camry, you will have several brands to choose from. Ask a sales associate for assistance if you are unsure of which brand to install in your car.
- 2). Open the hood of your car and find the fuel filter container. It is a silver container located just right of the engine on the driver's side of the car. Trace the gas line from the engine to a silver cylinder about 3 inches in diameter. This is your fuel filter container.
- 3). Remove the fuel line that is attached to the fuel filter container using a wrench. There are two bolts that you will need to unscrew before you are able to remove the fuel line completely. Once you have removed the fuel line, you will see the fuel filter.
- 4). Replace the old fuel filter with the new filter you purchased. It is recommended that you use a new set of washers when you are installing your new filter; your new fuel filter should come with a set.
- 5). Place the fuel line back into place on top of the fuel filter container. Tighten the bolts to secure the fuel line back onto the fuel filter container.
- 6). Clean any gas that may have spilled while you were changing the fuel filter. Turn the ignition on and look underneath your car for leaks in your fuel line. If you find a leak, turn your car off and tighten the fuel line more securely with a wrench.
