- 1). Remove any hardware from the fiberglass body of the golf cart.
- 2). Put on a respirator and sand the entire surface of the gelcoat using 200-grit sandpaper and a palm sander. Scuff every square inch until the fiberglass gelcoat is dull and smooth. For the fresh gelcoat to bond, the surface must be scuffed and not shiny.
- 3). Clean the surface of the fiberglass using a rag and acetone. Remove any dust or grease residue from the surface to assure the gelcoat bonds properly.
- 4). Use painters tape to mask off any parts on the golf cart that you don't want spray.
- 5). Mix the gelcoat with the hardener, as directed on the containers, using a small bucket and a stir stick. When the gelcoat is thoroughly mixed with the hardener, add it to the spray gun.
- 6). Apply the first coat in a heavy mist, keeping the tip of the gun at least 1 foot away from the surface. Keep the tip of the gun a consistent distance from the surface of the gulf cart for the best results. Let the first coat begin to harden and repeat the same process. You will have to clean out the gun with acetone, and remix some more gelcoat to spray the second coat because the gelcoat will harden fairly quickly. Let the gelcoat fully harden.
- 7). Take the tape off of the golf cart and replace any hardware that was removed.
