- 1). Pack appropriately. Use sturdy, stackable boxes. Some boxes have durable lids or use strong tape to close. Separate items that you may not use for a while from the items you use frequently. Mark the boxes accordingly with a pen. If you are reorganizing the storage unit, repack all the boxes.
- 2). Move all furniture and appliances to the back of the unit. Line the items with the most storage space in mind. You could place a couch upright or on its back. A long dresser could stand on its side for more floor space. Smaller furniture could sit on dressers, washing machines or even a couch.
- 3). Place the boxes that have the least used items towards the back of the unit. Stack them on furniture and each other. Line the unit starting in the back lengthwise and move outward from there.
- 4). Add the remaining boxes towards the front of the storage unit. Stack them on top of one another in a line from left to right.
