Five Tips to Splitting The Bill
So you have taken your crush to another nice restaurant, and it seems that it's up to you to stump up the cash for it - AGAIN. There's being chivalrous and polite, and then there's being taken for a ride. We know you don't want to come across as rude though, so what can you do about it? Our five tips to splitting the bill will tell you exactly what!
1. Ask them in advance.
If you ask before you're on the date, then there will be less awkwardness. Simply say "I've booked the table at that new Indian restaurant. Do you mind if we split the bill this time?" If you've already paid for several dates in a row, it's quite a reasonable request.
2. Politely mention the cost.
If you're doing several things which cost money in one evening, then as you pay for dinner just slip in "If I get this now, is it ok if you pay for the cinema later?" It'd be hard for anyone to say no.
3. Casually discuss a stingy friend.
Mention that you have a buddy who always ducks out of paying, and how people are starting to get annoyed with him or her. Your crush won't want to be tarred with the same brush as your tight friend!
4. Get on their level.
Everyone has bills to pay, but it can be easy to forget that a date who always picks up the tab has outgoings too. Drop into conversation how your car insurance is due for renewal soon which is going to set you back a chunk, or how you've had to fork out for vets bills. You're not going for the sympathy vote; you're just letting your date know that you have costs too.
5. Forget your credit card.
If all else fails, use the oldest trick in the book. As you meet your date, say that you forgot your wallet. Say that you don't mind going back to get it, but hopefully your date will offer to pick up the bill instead this time. If they don't, then it might be worth reconsidering if you want to carry on dating this person!
