- 1). Generate ideas for an overall theme. Since most master bathrooms are attached to the master bedroom, many people opt to have a theme that continues from one room to the next. However, others opt to engage in a separate theme for each room.
- 2). Choose a paint color. In most instance, the best colors for this space are soothing and fairly neutral. Think light blues, soothing taupes and creamy whites. If you want to go with something more bold, do three cream-colored bedroom walls with an accent color, like orange or red, and then put up coordinating wallpaper in the bathroom. Wallpaper for the bathroom also gives you the option of incorporating prints for something more creative.
- 3). Purchase bedroom and bathroom furniture. Now that you've determined your colors, shop around for furniture that matches the direction of the decor. For example, if you went with a more bold color scheme, keep furnishings fairly light. Bold colors like oranges and reds mean metal frames for beds and perhaps white or wicker furnishings to keep the room from becoming too heavy. Alternatively, if you've opted for something neutral like light blue or white in paint colors, purchase a heavier wood bedroom set.
- 4). Add accent pieces. Reflect your personality while sticking with the theme. Hang pictures of family on one wall of your bedroom and perhaps a large art print on another. Follow up with several smaller prints within the same theme of your large art print in the bathroom. Use Egyptian cotton bed linens and bathroom towels. If your bathroom space is large enough, put a small wicker chair in it, with a small pillow coordinating with the color scheme of your bed.
- 5). Test out the functionality of the space. Once you've determined your decor and the furnishings you want, move around in the space to make sure it is completely functional. After all, it does you no good to have a bedroom and master bath that look nice but are difficult in which to function. Make sure your furnishings hold all of your belongings and everything fits into the space without causing a lot of clutter.
