- 1). Clean the furniture thoroughly, removing all dirt and debris. If the furniture item you want to paint has a peeling finish or some other type of coating that spray paint will not adhere to, you will have to use sandpaper to remove it.
- 2). Place furniture on a dropcloth outside your home. If you do not have an outside location available, you will need to paint in a well-ventilated area and take frequent breaks. Purchase spray primer and spray paint specifically designed for the surface you want to paint. For example, if you are painting a wooden table, the paint should be made for wood.
- 3). Put on your safety gear (breathing mask, goggles, gloves, old clothes), and shake the spray can for the recommended length of time. Apply the spray primer to the furniture as evenly as possible. Allow the primer to dry.
- 4). Apply spray paint over the primer. Apply multiple layers to minimize runs and dripping. Cover the furniture completely. Give the paint plenty of time to dry.
