- 1). Locate a safe place to install your gymnastic rings. This can be indoors or outdoors, but you need a strong beam or tree branch (fairly high off the ground so you can hang your rings are a reasonable height) where you can hook your gymnastic rings into place. This will be your "anchor."
- 2). Test the stability of your anchor my hanging from it and walking on it if possible. Use caution as you test its durability and be ready to let go or jump off the anchor if it seems about to break. If the anchor bows or groans while you test the strength of it, you might want to find another anchor.
- 3). Measure the width of your shoulders. Add an extra inch to each side of that measurement and mark that distance on your anchor with a pencil. These pencil marks should be at least a leg's length away from any obstacles, such as a tree trunk or a wall.
- 4). Loop the gymnastic rings over the anchor. Put one ring at each pencil mark. This creates the most comfortable handling for the rings. Adjust the straps until the rings hang at the desired height.
- 5). Set down a soft mat below the rings that you can fall on if the need arises. Test the rings to see if you have the right height setting on them. This is also another chance to test the stability of your anchor as you swing on the rings.
