How to Identify the Barracuda

    • 1). Know where you might find the giant barracuda. The great barracuda is found throughout the seas of the world, and is fond of any coral reef. Though the reef is where it prefers to be, the great barracuda can also be found in the open sea.

    • 2). Notice the long slender body of the barracuda. This fish is known to reach lengths of six feet or more. This streamlined build allows the barracuda to knife through the water with amazing speed, and it often seems as though the fish just disappeared.

    • 3). Realize that even though the barracuda is long and seemingly thin, they are still quite heavy. A great barracuda can weigh in excess of 100 pounds. This incredible girth is due to an incredible hunger that is never satiated. The barracuda always hunts and eats given the opportunity.

    • 4). Notice the barracuda is bright and shiny. This silver colored body allows the barracuda to sometimes appear to be invisible in the water. When looking at it in profile, one might overlook it altogether.

    • 5). See the incredible row of teeth that the barracuda sports. The barracuda has a mouthful of long, razor sharp teeth that can cut through flesh like butter. This is not a fish that you want to be bitten by.

    • 6). Respect the barracuda's speed and dangerous demeanor. This fish is generally laid back, but it will attack if given the opportunity. If you see barracuda in the water, it is a good idea to get out. One bite from this dangerous fish can be life threatening due to the incredible slicing power of those teeth.
