- 1). Operate the bar end shifter lever as many times as necessary to give the cable maximum slack. Slack can be seen and felt in the cable.
- 2). Use a 5mm hex wrench and loosen the bolt on the cable pinch bolt on the derailleur. The pinch bolt attaches the bar end shifter cable to the derailleur.
- 3). Use bicycle cable cutters and cut away the metal cap at the end of the cable. The cap can be discarded.
- 4). Push the cable toward the front of the bike, causing the cable head to emerge from the bar end shifter. Grab the head of the cable, and pull. Remove the cable entirely.
- 5). Use a flat blade screwdriver and remove the screw from the side of the bar end shifter. The screw attaches the lever to the body of the bar end shifter.
- 6). Remove the bar end shifter lever, and set the lever aside. Push the square mounting boss, on which the lever was mounted, from the side of the bar end shifter. Set the mounting boss aside.
- 7). Insert a 6mm hex wrench into the center of the bar end shifter, and loosen the fixing bolt inside.
- 8). Grab the body of the bar end shifter and pull it away from the handlebar. The fixing bolt will come away with the bar end shifter.
