- 1). Lift up the front of your GMC Envoy using the jack, and support the truck on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is secure before you crawl underneath it.
- 2). Unbolt the wheels from the car, using the tire iron, and place the wheels to the side.
- 3). Unbolt the two strut bolts at the top of the frame using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set.
- 4). Unbolt the bottom bolt on the strut using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set. You can now remove the strut from the vehicle.
- 5). Mount the spring compressors onto the strut so that they are hooked to the coil as far apart as possible. This will ensure that you take the tension off the spring before you take the strut apart.
- 6). Tighten the spring compressor using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set. Alternate sides with the ratchet so that you don't over-tighten one side over the other.
- 7). Place an Allen key in the center of the strut at the top, and unbolt the strut cap bolt using the open-end wrench.
- 8). Pull the strut out from under the coil. Then place the replacement strut into the coil and strut cap, and loosely tighten the nut on top of the new strut.
- 9). Tighten the strut cap onto the strut using the open-end wrench and Allen key. Then loosen the spring compressors, alternating sides again using the 3/8-inch ratchet and sockets.
