- 1). Find the four tubular pipes of the exhaust manifold attached to the driver's side of the engine on the Nissan Sentra. Check that all the bolts and gaskets are secure and not worn. Look for moisture buildup or cracks on the manifold.
- 2). Raise the Nissan Sentra on a lift to get under the car safely to inspect the entire exhaust system.
- 3). Inspect the gaskets and bolts on the manifold where it meets the head pipe under the engine by shining a flashlight up under the car. Shine the light on all the other parts of the exhaust, including the catalytic converter, muffler and tailpipe.
- 4). Run your hand over the entire exhaust system under the car to feel for holes, cracks, rust or loose connections. Tap gently with a hammer along each piece to locate weak sections. Feel the hangers and clamps to make sure they're securely in place.
- 5). Lower your Nissan Sentra after completely inspecting the exhaust system.
