Memorial Day Weekend Activities in South Beach, Florida

Best of the Best Show and Urban Beach Weekend

Sean "Diddy" Combs, formerly Puff Daddy, hosts Best of the Best, the seminal Urban Beach Weekend concert, on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend at Bicentennial Park (http://www.setnetwork.net/Full-Event-Information.cfm?id=2&eventid=5). Rapper T.I. will make an appearance in 2011. Throughout South Beach, starting on the Thursday before the holiday weekend, clubs and bars will have drink specials, ladies nights, and special concerts.

May is also Miami Museum Month (http://www.joinoneseethemall.com/). During this time, visitors can purchase buy-one-get-one admission at 17 different Miami museums, including the Miami Art Museum, Miami Science Museum and more niche locations like the Haitian Heritage Museum, Ancient Spanish Monastery and Wings Over Miami Air Museum. In addition, members of any participating museum are invited to visit any of the others for free as part of this citywide cultural exchange. The Wolfsonian - FIU and Jewish Museum in Florida are in South Beach.

One museum not included in museum month is South Beach's World Erotic Art Museum (http://www.weam.com/web/index.php?categoryid=17). It features 12,000 square feet of paintings, sculpture and other art forms: the largest collection of erotic art in America. During May, and through Memorial Day weekend 2011, it will feature an exhibit called Alice in Thunderland by American photographer Justice Howard. Her concept is the empowerment of women, and she also presents her interpretation of the Disney princesses in this adults-only show.

Two of the biggest bars in Miami Beach also offer the biggest drink specials on Memorial Day weekend. A home base for the young and hip, Wet Willies (http://www.wetwillies.com) is located right on the strip, and features a second story deck amid the palms and street lights. It serves classic beach drinks, and the Naked Willy, which is carb- and sugar-free. Fat Tuesday (http://www.fat-tuesday.com/site288.php) on Ocean Drive offers an almost endless combination of frozen drinks, including the 190 Octane, a popular mix of orange juice and grain spirits.
