Changing Your Address
If you have moved from one Tennessee residence to another, you may change your address online at www.tennesseeanytime.org/chgdl. Or, you may visit any of the driver's license stations listed below. Please note that times and locations can change without warning. Always call the station in advance to verify hours and address.

*Please Note: These stations open 1 hour late on the 2nd Wednesday of every month to accommodate a monthly staff meeting. Also, these stations may stop accepting applicants well before 4:30 in order to get everyone processed by closing time.
New to Tennessee:
If you are a new resident of Tennessee, you must bring the following items to a driver's license station:
- Your current license (or certified copy of driving record or other acceptable ID).
- Proof of name change (if applicable), such as original, certified court order, marriage certificate, or divorce decree.
- Two proofs of Tennessee residency showing your name and resident address (no P.O. Boxes) dated within the last four months.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status
In addition, you will be required to:
- Take a Tennessee vision exam at the driver's license station.
- Take the Tennessee knowledge and road skills exams only if your out-of-state license has been expired for six months or more. Please note that you must make an appointment to take your driving test.
- Surrender your out-of-state license at time of application for Tennessee license (foreign country licenses/IDs may be retained).
Getting a Driver's License for the First Time
If you are getting a license for the first time, please note that you must make an appointment to take your driving test. In addition, you will need to bring the following items to a testing station:
- Primary Proof of Identification
- Secondary Proof of Identification
- Proof of any Name Changes if Different than name on Primary ID
- Two proofs of Tennessee residency showing your name and resident address (no P.O. Boxes) dated within the last four months.
- Teenage Affidavit/Financial Responsibility
- Proof of school attendance/progress
- Certification of 50 Hours Behind the Wheel Driving Experience (Form SF-1256)
- Minor/Teen-age Affidavit and Cancellation form
In addition, to obtain a Tennessee Driver's License for the first time if you are under the age of 18, proof of prior driving experience is required. You must either:
- Obtain a learner permit for at least six months
OR - Have been licensed to drive in another state for at least 90 days.
