- 1). Click "Start" on the Windows taskbar and then right-click on "Network." Select "Properties" and then click "Manage Network Connections" on the "Network and Sharing" window's left-hand menu. In the "Network Connections" window, right-click on the icon for your computer and select "Properties."
- 2). Click "Internet Protocol Version 4" and then click "Properties." If your computer is set to get an IP address automatically, click on the radio button next to "Use the following IP address." Type in your IP address. In the box labeled "subnet," type in your subnet address. The subnet address for most home networks is 255.255.255.0. If you were provided with a default gateway, type this into the appropriate field as well.
- 3). Click "Start" again, type "Command" into the search bar and press "Enter." At the command prompt, type in "ipconfig /all" and press "Enter" to show your network's settings. Check that the settings reflect the changes you made. Exit out of the command window and open a browser. Try visiting a Web page to verify your computer is getting onto the Internet.
