- 1). Buy the tie rods that are specific to your Jeep Grand Cherokee. As these parts can vary from model year to model year, you want to make sure you get the right ones.
- 2). Remove the lug nuts on the front tires. Jack up your Jeep, and when you have it safely supported on jack stands, remove the tires.
- 3). Take out the bolt that secures the tie rod to the steering rack, then mark the tie rod's position in the tie rod adjuster with a marker or paint.
- 4). Loosen the nut that secures the tie rod in the adjuster, then unscrew it, keeping track of the number of turns it takes. Write down that number.
- 5). Transfer the marks from the old tie rod onto the new one, then screw the new tie rod into position. Tighten the nut to 60 foot pounds. Put the other end of the tie rod into the steering rack, and put in the bolt.
- 6). Repeat the steps for the other tie rod, then put back on the tires. Tighten the lug nuts to 85 to 115 foot pounds. Get your Jeep Grand Cherokee aligned.
