The True Purpose Of Yoga

On the materials of Chapter "The true goal of yoga"
from the book of John White, "What is Enlightenment"
(International Publishing Project Texts of Transpersonal Psychology ")

New School Training

Yoga - not religion, and sacred tradition. Gopi Krishna points out that the Sanskrit root of this word - "yudzh" or "train" means "connection". The purpose of a person practicing yoga - to connect with the universe through the achievement of the beyond the state, which is called "samadhi" or "moksha".
Thus, yoga is both a means and end. It has many varieties and forms in respect of its methodology, but they all are, in principle, lead to the same state of liberation.
Yoga can be adapted to any cultural or religious situation in any professional activity, and to any lifestyle. There is a Hindu form of yoga, Christian, Buddhist, Taoist, a yoga program in psychiatric hospitals, prisons and rehabilitation centers.
As Sri Aurobindo said, "all of life - this is yoga. He implied that if you want to become an enlightened being, then everything you do in your life, can be used to enhance consciousness, ie, to achieve the "Yoga" (compound unity). And Christ's words that "my burden is light" (Matthew 11:30) have a deeper meaning than that in which it is commonly perceived. Exoteric Christianity interprets this statement about the "burden" in the sense of the heavy burdens, hard work, but esoteric Christianity gives these words a different meaning - "practice, which I propose to gain consciousness of the Christ" ...

There are hundreds of thousands of men and women in this world, which is strongly attracted by the occult and supernatural. There are also hundreds of thousands, for whom the mystery of existence has an irresistible attraction, and many others who have uncontrollable desire to acquire occult powers and "mental" over-capacity. These searchers are turning to yoga, spiritualism, psychic research, occult practices and spiritual disciplines to meet their aspirations. This is natural and, from their point of view is correct, but often there is confusion in the interpretation of the aspirations themselves, and this confusion is increased when it interfere with professionals specializing in these areas.
The purpose of yoga, like any religious discipline is productive, righteous life and achieve unity with God.
Achieving this goal will lead to super-rational knowledge, and to a higher state of consciousness. Visionary experience, as it is confirmed almost all of the mystics, yogis and Sufis of the past, is a source of indescribable happiness. This experience gives the searcher unwavering strength and faith, unwavering belief in immortality, the beyond knowing and blissful union with the ocean of life, beauty, splendor, compassion, love, peace and tranquility. It has no equal on earth.
"People Sattvic (net) revere the gods, - the Bhagavad Gita - people rajasic (passionate) worship nature spirits and demons, while tamasic (dark, unable to discern), men say that disembodied souls and ghosts."
The difference between the true desire of the soul to God and a thirst for miracles and psychic phenomena clearly be recognized enlightened since time immemorial. The practice of predictions, "access to the astral, mental healing, witchcraft, etc. existed from the very beginning of nucleation of culture in Sumer and Egypt, more than five thousand years ago. Since that time, countless people in all parts of the world have tried to extract from these methods any benefit. Many have tried to become adept at this, hoping to regain strength, good luck in life, ability to communicate with spirits, conquer enemies, perform miracles, to prolong life and to conquer death. But is there any concrete examples to support that these people have succeeded in their intentions, and can be a model for others?

Miracles attributed to Christ, to help several thousand people in his time, but only his precious teachings and the life he lived, have an influence on mankind and to this day. Miracles, which, as they say he committed, and those associated with his birth, now can be considered one of the main factors responsible for the doubts which now has a relatively very existence of Christ. Everything that is not in accordance with divine laws can not survive for long. The teaching of Christ was in agreement with these laws and therefore survived intact. His miracles did not comply with these laws, and therefore their value is in the past, they did not recognize the rational intellect of our time.
This applies not only to Christ. All the miracles attributed to the Buddha, followers of yoga, Christian mystics and other spiritual teachers, not only completely negated by the most knowledgeable people, but also used by skeptics as a weapon, facing the very foundations of the faith that these miracles seem intended to reinforce.
Many of the miracles attributed to saints, such as flying through the air, not only were not repeated by anyone, but were surpassed by modern science. In the ancient treatises on a wonderful and magical accomplishments of spiritual people, there is nothing that could even come close to the wonders which met today, thanks to the intellect. The only miracle that has survived and remained unbeaten despite the onslaught of time - a miracle of enlightenment, the miracle of transfiguration, which is perceived as the greatest revolution in thought and behavior for generations and generations of human beings. This is something that gives comfort and strength of mind, evidence of overcoming grief and suffering by faith and gives hope for a brighter future in times of very heavy despair. All this serves as a necessary means for human consciousness, to back up its confidence and courage, despite all the hardships of the evolutionary ascent. This - the only miracle that science can never reproduce.
The desire to solve the riddle of existence, to penetrate the dark and mysterious, and look behind the veil is rooted in a deep evolutionary impulses of human consciousness. Through this encouraging nature involves intelligence to study the supernatural and the noumenal, eventually leading to the discovery of super-physical forces that govern the universe.
The main purpose - to engage in the soul of her own secret investigation in order to find answers to your questions in the minds of almost everyone - Questions about the problem of its own existence. Completion of this study is the release that is gaining knowledge of the soul itself.

The soul is infinite and eternal ocean of bliss, one with the sun, stars and planets, but spared their incessant motion. It - it is the light of the world, free of any chains that chained the human body to the ground. The purpose of this evolutionary impulse - to lead a person to realize himself. With this high knowledge he will be able to arrange his life as a rational human being, free from selfishness, violence, greed, ambition, and an immoderate passion. Therefore, the purpose of nature is something that every child born on earth, had the opportunity to gain higher consciousness and live a beautiful life, aware of their immortal divine inner nature and being in harmony and peace with every human being.
