Buy jellybeans in the colors of red, green, yellow, purple and pink. Give students at least one jellybean in every color. Let them use markers, glue, crayons and colored paper to make a picture with them; beans can be anything, the center of a flower, a bird in the sky or pebbles in a driveway. Let students show their projects to the class once completed. Pull out a rainbow previously made with the jellybeans and explain that red represents the blood of Christ. Green signifies the palm leaves waved to welcome Jesus. Yellow stands for God's light, purple represents Christ's suffering and pink is hope. Each of their pictures are a representation of God's love and a reminder of the trials of Jesus. - Use ribbon to decorate the cross.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
Create a tomb for Jesus with a Styrofoam ball, two Popsicle sticks, flowers, ribbon, glue, markers and paint. Decorate the two Popsicle sticks with paint and markers. Glue the Popsicle sticks together to make a cross. Cut the Styrofoam ball in half so that it can sit flat on a hard surface. Decorate the Styrofoam ball with markers, paint, flowers and ribbon to form a tomb. Stick the cross into the center of the ball and use flowers and ribbon to finalize the tomb. - Use fire to teach forgiveness.Ablestock.com/AbleStock.com/Getty Images
Pass out pieces of paper and ask children to write down the worst thing they have ever done or things they do that they know are wrong. Tell them no one will ever see what they write; this is just between them and God. Have kids fold their answers in half after everyone has finished. Collect pieces of paper and burn them to symbolize Jesus' suffering. As the paper burns, explain to children the forgiveness of sin and how Christ's suffering has given them forgiveness. - Have kids wash each others feet.Jupiterimages/Photos.com/Getty Images
Lie tubs of water out on the floor, preferably one tub for every two children. Tubs should be big enough for kids to step into with both feet. Separate kids into twos and tell them to remove their socks and shoes. Line children up by each tub of water. Have one kid step inside the tub and another child wash their feet. Explain how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples directly before he was taken away, telling them that just as he has washed their feet, they should wash the feet of others. Have children switch places after their partner's feet have been dried.
