- 1). Turn off the circuit breaker assigned to the GE oven at the main electrical panel. Tag the breaker to make other people aware of the work being done.
- 2). Open the oven door.
- 3). Check the back wall of the oven in the upper-left corner. The thermocouple is approximately 6 inches long, 1/8 inch in diameter and protrudes from the wall.
- 4). Remove the two thermocouple flange screws with the appropriate screwdriver. Turn the screws counterclockwise.
- 5). Pull the thermocouple straight out from the back wall to the extent the attached wires allow. The wiring will pull out from behind the oven insulation several inches.
- 6). Cut the two thermocouple wires as close to the terminals as possible using wire cutters.
- 7). Strip 1/2 inch from each of the wires using wire strippers.
- 8). Connect the stripped ends from the oven wiring to the new thermocouple wires with high-temperature wire nuts. The nuts are included with the new thermocouple. Tighten clockwise by hand.
- 9). Insert the wires and their connections into the back wall hole. Be sure the connections are tucked behind the thermal insulation and not resting against the metallic back of the oven.
- 10
Line up the thermocouple flange screw holes with those in the oven and insert the screws. Tighten both screws clockwise with the screwdriver. - 11
Close the oven door and restore power to the stove.
