- 1). Spread the drapes on a flat surface, with the right side down.
- 2). Measure up the bottom of the outside side edge 42 inches and mark this point with a pin. Measure up from the inside edge 36 inches and mark this point with a pin. These measurements are for standard 8-foot-long drapes. For 9-foot drapes measure 48 inches on the outer edge and 42 inches on the inside edge.
- 3). Pin a length of 1 1/2-inch twill tape to the drapes in a straight line between the two pins. Fold under 1/2 inch on each end of the tape to create a finished edge.
- 4). Sew the tape to the drapes by sewing 1/4 inch from both edges of the tape. Sew through both the curtain fabric and the lining.
- 5). Thread 1/2-inch cord into the casing with a bodkin or a large safety pin.
- 6). Sew the end of the cord to casing near the inside edge of the curtain. Tie a knot in the cord at the outside edge of the casing. Be sure the drape is flat when you tie the knot, to ensure the cord will be long enough to allow the curtain to hang straight down. Cut the excess cord off 3 inches beyond the knot.
- 7). Sew on a casing and install a cord on the drape for the other side of the window in the same way. Hang the drapes. Adjust the drapes by pulling out the cords on the outside edge of the drapes.
