- 1). Soak your lifters in oil overnight before you install them the next day.
- 2). Open the hood of your car and remove the negative terminal of your battery.
- 3). Locate your intake manifold. The manifold's location will vary based on your vehicle. Remove the intake manifold by removing the screws that secure it. Refer to your vehicle's service manual if you are having trouble removing it.
- 4). Locate your valve covers and remove them by using an Allen wrench. You will be unscrewing the black caps that secure them to each valve.
- 5). Locate the side of the engine where the crankshaft is connected to the camshaft. You will notice a hole in each of the gears. Line these two holes up. This will ensure that the pistons are properly synchronized with the opening of the valves.
- 6). Slide your old lifters out from the bore of the camshaft by pulling them directly out of their slots. They will come free as long as the pistons are synchronized, as determined in Step 5.
- 7). Remove your new lifter from the oil bath and put engine assembly lube on the bottom of the roller.
- 8). Slide your roller into the bore of the camshaft.
- 9). Repeat Steps 6 and Steps 7 for each of your roller lifters. Every cylinder in your vehicle has two lifters, one for intake and one for exhaust.
