Difference Between Faux and Leather Sofas

    Leather

    • Leather sofas offer a unique advantage over all other sofas. They clean extremely easily, are durable and maintain a softness and comfort for years after the purchase. While upholstery is only one factor in determining the quality of a sofa, most genuine-leather sofas cost more than any other kind of sofa type. Leather has the ability to breathe better and adjust to body temperatures. It can be wiped down with a leather protective solution and preserved in pristine condition for many years.

    Faux Leather

    • Faux leather is fake leather. Many people find faux leather useful for its sense of durability as well. In order to manufacture faux leather, designers use a blend of synthetic materials that can mimic the look, and in some degrees, the feel of real leather as well. Leather has a strong smell, opposed to faux leather that doesn't really have any odor at all. Faux-leather couches in many instances will cost significantly less than a leather couch.

    Faux-Leather Manufacturing

    • Leather is produced from animal skins, which gives it that characteristic musky smell. Faux leather, on the other hand, is manufactured on a fabric base. Faux leather is used when people want to replicate the look and feel of leather without using any animal products. The main difference between faux leather and genuine leather are that faux is man-made with synthetic materials such as PVC and leather is treated and manufactured using animal skins.

    Longevity

    • Serious longevity issues arise when you choose faux leather over genuine leather. For those interested in making a long-term investment in their next sofa or living-room set, genuine leather will last longer. Genuine all-leather furniture also is known to get more softer and comfortable as it wears. Faux leather has a tendency to crack and become more abrasive feeling as time goes on. It will be more difficult to preserve the quality and appearance of a faux leather opposed to a genuine leather.
