- 1). Apply the buffing compound to the buffer. Start with a small amount and add more during the buffing process. It does not take a heavy hand to create a perfect shine. There are two different motions you can use that produce different results; cut and color motion. If you are looking for a smooth surface with moderate shine, work in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel. For more of a mirror-like shine, use the motion in harmony with the spinning wheel. A steady hand with light pressure of the buffer will give your rims a beautiful shine.
- 2). Place the buffer on the electric drill and turn on. Begin using light pressure to rub the compound into the surface of the rim. Repeat buffing the rim with different compounds to remove imperfections with each compound lighter than the first. You will soon see the shine you are trying to achieve.
- 3). When you the buffing is completed, wash with warm soapy water and a soft cloth to remove excess residue of the buffing compound. Then dry with a chamois or soft cloth. If you find swirl marks when you are finished, take a bit of powder or corn starch and dust it onto the rim. Buff the rim again until the swirl marks disappear.
- 4). Touch up the rim with a dry cloth and repeat the steps for each rim. Remember that each rim may have differing degrees of imperfections so will require you to adjust the buffing process accordingly.
