  A village located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River, Irvington--also referred to as Irvington-on-Hudson--is a suburban community of about 6,600 residents, as of the 2000 census. Situated about 20 miles north of Manhattan, Irvington is predominantly a "bedroom community," with many of its residents commuting into the city to work. In addition to containing many sites of historical interest, Irvington also can boast of its many upscale, fine dining establishments.
