Treating with Vinegar

• If you have white vinegar or even apple cider vinegar in your home, you are ready to begin treating a case of head lice. To kill the lice with vinegar, you simply need to soak the hair and scalp in vinegar. Cover the head with a shower cap and let the hair soak in the vinegar for an hour. If after rinsing you see more lice simply retreat the hair with the vinegar and the shower cap the next day. When you do this, ensure that you also wash all bedding and clothing in hot water or you'll become re-infected with the head lice.
  
  

Treating with Mayonnaise

• Mayonnaise is also another well known treatment that will be virtually free since most people have plenty of mayo on hand in their refrigerator. Mayonnaise will kill every stage of the lice, so it is a quick and easy approach to getting rid of the problem. To use this method you simply apply enough mayonnaise to the hair to saturate it completely. Cover with a shower cap and allow to soak for one to two hours. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary. While allowing the hair to soak, launder all sheets and clothing to remove lice from these areas.
  
  

Tea Tree Oil

• If you have tea tree oil on hand, this is another virtually free and natural lice treatment. To use tea tree oil, you need to apply 15 to 20 drops of the oil to your favorite shampoo. Shake the shampoo bottle, evenly distributing the tea tree oil throughout. Wash your hair with this shampoo twice a day for five to seven days or until you no longer find any evidence of head lice. Remember to simultaneously launder your bedding and clothing to remove any lice from these areas, as well.
