- 1). Watch their eyes when they speak to you. Are they making eye contact with you? Or are they looking around a little, perhaps staring straight through you, or not even looking at you at all...
- 2). When someone has agreed to something, only for them to have something come up later, pay attention to the tone in their voice when they explain why they're not able to do something with you now. Watching their eye movement now is especially helpful, as it can help you determine whether or not they are telling you the truth. If they look up and away when they say something, they are probably either inventing it on the spot, or remembering something they already made up for you earlier.
- 3). Ask yourself, "How often do I initialize conversation and how often do they initialize conversation". A slight nod of the head is not initializing a conversation. Eye contact is not initializing a conversation. Even smiling is not an invitation to start chatting. It is a polite gesture that may have absolutely no thought behind it. Smiles are free though, so do use them liberally.
- 4). If you have evaluated someone as not liking you as much as you thought they might, try spending some time not concerning yourself with this person and you may observe how their behavior changes in response. You might find them engaging you in conversation more often or more enthusiastically.
