My Bosch Dishwasher SHX46A06UC/21 Will Not Turn Off

    Thermostat

    • The thermostat inside the Bosch SHX46A06UC/21 dishwasher determines the temperature in the unit during the cycles. Rinse and cleaning cycles each run with different water temperatures. The thermostat will break the electrical circuit necessary for the dishwasher to continue running if the temperature reaches the correct level. A faulty switch on the thermostat will prevent the circuit break from occurring. Pull the connectors from the thermostat. Set a multimeter to the X1 setting and touch the probes to the terminal. The thermostat should read zero when cool. If not, it should be replaced.

    Door Not Closing

    • The door of your dishwasher should be properly closed for the unit to switch or end cycles. A dishwasher that continues running may reset itself if the door happens to open and close during the cycle. Make sure the door locking lever is not loose and the door is properly closed throughout the washing cycles.

    Heating Element

    • The heating element ensures the dishwasher is running at the correct temperature. When faulty, the dishwasher will continue to run a cycle, never able to reach the correct temperature necessary to switch to the next cycle. The heating element is a wire conductor at the bottom of the dishwasher tub. Pull out on the bottom panel of the unit to expose the underside of the dishwasher. Pull on the connectors connected to the heating element. Set a multitester to the X1 setting and touch one probe to each of the terminals. The setting should be zero or infinity. If not, the heating element is faulty.

    Timer

    • The timer detects how long a cycle has run. If the timer is faulty, the cycle may continue to run even if it has reached the correct temperature. The timer is hidden behind the door of your Bosch dishwasher. Remove the screws from the door panel on the inside of the door. Find the timer on the door. Remove the wires from the terminals and label them for replacement. Set the multimeter to the X1 setting. It should read between 2,000 and 3,500 Ohms. If not, the timer should be replaced.
