- 1). Record the number assigned to each of the engine cylinders. Starting with the passenger side of the engine, from front to back, are cylinder numbers one, two, three and four. On the passenger side of the engine, from front to back, are cylinder numbers five, six, seven and eight.
- 2). Note the engine firing order. The firing order means the order in which each spark plug receives its spark from the distributor. The placement of the spark plug wires on the distributor cap must match this firing order. The firing order for the 352 is as follows: one, five, four, two, six, three, seven and eight. Each number represents the number assigned to each cylinder as located in the above step.
- 3). Plug one end of a spark plug wire onto the number one cylinder spark plug, meaning the spark plug at the front of the passenger side of the engine.
- 4). Plug the opposite end of the spark plug wire onto any port on top of the distributor cap.
- 5). Assign the remaining firing order numbers to the remaining ports on the top of the distributor cap. The rotor underneath the distributor cap rotates in a counterclockwise direction on the 352. Therefore, since the firing order shows that cylinder number five fires after cylinder one, the port next to the number one spark plug wire installed in the above step, when moving in a counterclockwise direction, is the spark plug wire port for cylinder number five. Moving in a counterclockwise direction from the port for cylinder number five, are the spark plug ports for cylinder numbers four, two, six, three, seven and eight.
- 6). Install the remaining spark plug wires onto their respective posts on the distributor cap and onto the appropriate spark plugs. For example, if a spark plug wire is installed onto the number five port on the distributor cap, install the opposite end of the wire onto the spark plug of the number five cylinder, which is the spark plug at the front of the driver side of the engine.
