- 1). Eliminate the danger of electrical injury by unplugging your Sears Kenmore dryer before attempting to install the thermal cutoff. Turn off the supply of gas, if applicable. Ensure that you've disconnected all electricity and gas before you remove any dryer panels.
- 2). Take off the bottom kick panel to access the dryer's thermal cutoff; two metal clips, located 4 inches in from the sides of the panel, hold the panel to the front of the dryer cabinet. Press on the metal clips with a putty knife or flathead screwdriver until the panel releases; set it aside. The thermal cutoff is behind the rear panel in some Kenmore dryer models. Remove the screw at each corner to free the panel.
- 3). Locate the thermal cutoff on or near the dryer's blower housing. Identify the thermal cutoff; look for a small plastic component with a wire connected to each end. Pull gently on the wires to disconnect them from the faulty cutoff. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw at the center of the component. Discard the old cutoff, but retain the screw.
- 4). Install the new thermal cutoff in your dryer. Hold the component to the dryer and reinsert the screw you retained. Tighten the screw with the screwdriver. Reattach the wires to the ends of the cutoff and installation is complete.
