- 1). Slide the dryer out so that you have full access to the rear of the dryer. Make sure the dryer is not connected to any electrical lines or outlets.
- 2). Follow the existing power cord to where it enters the dryer. There you will see the cover plate over the power strip/block. Loosen and remove the screws in each corner of the cover plate. Remove the plate and set it and the screws aside for later re-assembly.
- 3). Locate the wiring from the existing plug to where it is connected to the dryer. You will see an electrical strip with screws holding each wire to the power strip. Loosen each screw enough to remove each wire from underneath and pull the wires loose. Slide the power cord out of the rear of the dryer and discard.
If there is a short grounding strip running from the center screw on the power strip to a screw on the metal frame of the dryer, loosen and remove this metal strip. - 4). Insert the new electrical cable/plug into the rear of the dryer through the hole for the cover panel. Connect the wiring to the power strip, by screwing each wire down onto the appropriate wire until it is tight.
Connect the red and black hot wires to the two outside brass screws, the white neutral wire to the center screw, and the green wire to the screw in the metal frame of the dryer, where the previous grounding strip was attached. - 5). Place the cover panel back over the power strip and insert a screw into each hole and tighten them down.
- 6). Slide the dryer back into place and plug the dryer cord into the outlet and test for power.
