1). Visit one of the Internet speed test websites that do not require any software downloads to perform a connection speed analysis.
2). Click on a server location if necessary. Some internet speed test websites offer analysis from servers in different locations. Click on any one of the listed cities and your test will begin. Click the "Start Test" button on websites that do not offer multiple test servers.
3). Repeat the test several times to establish an average speed. Perform speed tests at different times of day to see if the data exchange speed varies.
4). Compare the connection speed figures from your test to those promised by your internet service provider. Many DSL connection and broadband Internet services providers quote averages that your computer may fall short of or exceed.
