- 1). Measure the chair bottom. If the chair bottom is not square, make a paper pattern by laying paper in the chair and marking the shape with the marking pen.
- 2). Add ½ seam allowances to all sides. Cut the pattern from paper.
- 3). Cut two pieces of decorator fabric using the pattern as a guide. This will be the top and bottom of the cushion. Cut 4 strips of decorator fabric 5x25 inches. This is the gusset/welt.
- 4). Sew gusset strips right sides together forming a ring. Leave ½ free at the top and bottom of each gusset seam. (You should have 4 inches of stitching in this 5 inch welt.) These seams will be at the corners of your cushion.
- 5). With right sides together, pin the cording to the welt ring at the top and bottom, with the raw edge of the cording and the raw edge of the welt together. Sew them in place.
- 6). With the right sides together, pin the corded welt to the top piece of the cushion fabric, matching corners all around. Sew as close to the cording as possible, using a zipper foot.
- 7). With the right sides together, pin the bottom cushion piece to the corded welting, aligning corners with the top piece. Stitch the same as the previous step except leave a large opening (18 to 20 inches) on the back side. Turn the right sides out. Press if necessary.
- 8). Trace the pattern shape on the foam, and cut to size.
- 9). Wrap the batting around the foam. Insert the wrapped foam in the cover. Slipstitch the opening.
