- 1). Lay the circle pattern on the block of wood. Trace the pattern with a pencil. Put on the safety glasses and cut the circle out on the band saw. This creates the bracelet blank.
- 2). Center the blank on the lathe using the four-jaw chuck as a jam chuck with the spindle. Put on safety glasses and turn on the lathe. Place the spindle gouge against the wood. The spindle gouge is a bladed instrument that cuts a small shaving of wood away from the wood. Move the spindle gouge along the outside of the circle while the lathe spins the blank to smooth the outside of the bracelet. Remove the blank from the lathe spindle.
- 3). Fill any holes in the edges of the wood with Cyanoacrylate glue. Let the glue dry overnight.
- 4). Open the jaws of the chuck to hold the outside of the blank. Slip the blank between the jaws and tighten the blank in place. Start the lathe. Use the spindle gouge to smooth the face of the circle.
- 5). Measure 1/2-inch from the outer edge of the turning blank and mark the spot as the blank turns. Insert the parting tool into the face of the blank. The parting tool is a double-bladed tool that cuts a groove in the wood. Slowly press the tool into the blank to create a deep groove. Stop the lathe from time to time to check the depth of the groove; stop when the groove cuts halfway through the blank.
- 6). Remove the blank and turn it around so that the uncut face is showing in the chuck. Tighten the blank in place. Smooth the face of the blank and cut the groove with the parting tool. When the center of the bracelet is free, remove the smaller circle leaving the bracelet locked in the chuck.
- 7). Smooth the interior surface of the bracelet with the spindle tool. Use the tool to bevel the outer edge of the bracelet. Turn the bracelet and bevel the opposite side of the bracelet. It may take time and practice to bevel both sides of the bracelet equally. Remove the bracelet from the lathe.
- 8). Sand the bracelet with fine grit sandpaper -- 100-grit or higher. Paint the bracelet with clear lacquer to finish.
