- 1). Open the Web browser window of your choice and select the "Tools" icon located at the top of your browser window. The keyboard shortcut "Alt + T" will open the "Tools" menu.
- 2). Click on the "Options" or "Internet Options" button located on the bottom of the "Tools" selection. This will open a menu used for editing your Web browser.
- 3). Select the "Content" tab at the top of this menu on Firefox. Make sure that "Block pop-up windows" has a check beside it. For Internet Explorer, the tab is labeled "Privacy", and "Turn on Pop-Up Blocker" should be checked. Internet Explorer has a privacy tab with a slider that controls your cookie settings. Most pop-ups are cookies, and if your slider is on "Accept all cookies," move that bar up to "Medium." This will stop pop-ups from appearing on your screen.
- 4). Click on the "Exceptions" tab next to "Block pop-up windows" on Firefox. On Internet Explorer, click the "Settings" button. A new window will open and you can type in the URLs of websites you want to receive pop-ups from. Doing this will guarantee your favorite sites can show you pop-ups.
- 5). Press "OK" when you are finished making your changes.
