How to Convert AVI to DVD Using Windows Movie Maker

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu to open it.

    • 2). Type "Windows Movie Maker" in the search box and press "Enter." Movie Maker will open.

    • 3). Press "Control" and "I" to open the "File Selection" window.

    • 4). Navigate to your AVI file and click it to highlight it. Click "Import." The window will close and a thumbnail of the AVI will appear in the center of the screen.

    • 5). Right-click the thumbnail and select "Add to Timeline."

    • 6). Click "Publish Movie" at the top of the screen. Select "DVD" from the pop-up window and click "Next" and then "OK." Windows will close Movie Maker and open Windows DVD Maker. The thumbnail of your AVI file will appear at the top of the screen.

    • 7). Click the thumbnail to highlight it and click "Next."

    • 8). Click "Menu Text" at the top of the screen. A window will open containing text boxes. Here you can change the text of the disk title, play button, scenes button and notes button. Modify the default values if you like and click "Change Text." Otherwise, click "Don't Change." The window will close.

    • 9). Click the "Customize Menu" button at the top of the screen to open the "Customize Menu Style" window. Click the "Browse" buttons if you want to add foreground video, background video or menu audio to the DVD.

      Click the drop-down button named "Scenes Button Styles" to customize the button style of the DVDs scenes button. Click "Change Style" if you make changes. Otherwise, click "Don't Change." The window will close.

      Click the different menu style thumbnails on the right of the screen. These styles determine how the menu will appear on the DVD. As you click each thumbnail, you will see a larger version of it in the center of the screen.

      Click "Preview" at the top of the screen to preview your changes. Then click "OK" to return to the main screen. Continue to change the DVD styles until you are satisfied with the results.

    • 13

      Place a formatted DVD in your computer's DVD drive and click "Burn" to burn the AVI to DVD. A wizard will walk you through the burning process.
